Oh, God, what did he look
like? Was he still as beautiful as she remembered? Of course he was,
he would never age, like Cordelia, he would continue to be the beautiful
man that she remembered. Oh, God, she couldn’t do this, not right
now, not the way she was feeling.
She was glad Cordelia was back, she
was so glad Cordelia was back, but now she felt so damn alone, she was
the fifth wheel everywhere, and the love that was passionately shared by
all four of her friends only made things worse for her, because she had
once felt an intensity like that, an aching in her heart that she had never
felt, and she couldn’t deal with it, she couldn’t deal with again. It had
almost killed her the first time.

"Wait." Buffy sat up, still trying
to comprehend what happened. "She came after us?"
Cordelia swallowed, and nodded.
"Yes."
"Without us knowing?" Willow repeated.
Another nod.
"And you were here too, I mean,
before?"
Another nod.

Willow smiled, conceding. "I guess.
She stalked us, Oz. Do you remember what she said? She was actually watching
us before she made contact. She seems disturbed, scared of something, more
scared than I’ve ever seen her."
"Yeah?" Giles and Oz both looked
at her.
“Something’s wrong.”
"Willow what are you driving at?"Willow
looked lost in thought, and concern flooded her pretty eyes.
"I'm saying that I think Cordelia's
going through something. And it's scaring me." She trailed off, her
forehead furrowing. "And I think it scares her most of all."

Mag just smiled, pushing her fists
further into her coat. “Cordelia Chase, resident May Queen, most
popular and rich girl in school, is stalking her friends.”
Cordelia was silent, her eyebrows
furrowed, swallowing hard. “ You’re not gonna kill them, Mag. I won’t let
you.”
“I think I will.” She retorted.
“I’ll destroy everyone of your precious Scooby Gang, beginning with her,
and ending with Xander, and then you’ll be just like me.” Her
last words came out enunciated,
strong and firm. “Alone. Alone, desperate.... and CRAZY.”

“I’m NOT leaving, Cordy.” He said
again. “I love you. And you love me. You need me.”
“No, I don’t, Xander.” She whispered,
shaking her head furiously. “No, I don’t. I’m selfish. I can make
it on my own, I can.”
He closed his eyes, and then using
as much strength as he could, her pulled her to him, kissing her harshly.
She struggled, but he held on for dear life, holding her so tightly she
could scarcely move.
"No!" She pushed against him, finally
losing all control, "Dammit, Xander, no, stay away from me! I'm going to
get you all killed ! I destroy everyone that I love, Xander!" Tears began
to stream from her face, and as he still held his grasp strong, her knees
gave out, and the couple sank onto the street, their arms wrapped around
each other, Cordelia sobbing uncontrollably.
