Chapter Eleven

She was gentle as she carried the tray up the stairs. Giles had been home from the hospital only a week, and although he kept making ridiculous claims that he was getting better, Cordelia knew he was still in pain.  Thank God she was on vacation.  She had spent most of her time taking care of him.  Honestly, she didn’t know who had gone the craziest, him or her.  She smiled softly to herself. And she had never been happier.  What that old fogie did to her was amazing.

She looked in the doorway, making sure not to upset the cokes and the popcorn.  He lay on the bed, one finger lazily pushing channels on the remote.

“So what are we watching?”  Cordelia set the tray carefully on the side of the bed before climbing up next to Giles.  He smiled, slinging an arm around her as he beckoned to the television with the remote.

“There’s a wonderful special on the hummingbird’s migrating habits.” He said, his face serious.  After seeing Cordelia’s immediate horrified face, Giles laughed.  “I’m only kidding, Cordelia.”

“You better, you old fogie.” She said, punching him gently in the ribs before carefully arranging her self so that she was lined up warmly beside him, avoiding moving his cast leg.  “I told you you could PICK the movie, not bore me half to tears with it.”

He grinned, caressing her back tenderly as he pulled her closer.  “I know. I picked Willow.”

She gave him a confused look before he handed her the jacket that described the movie.  “Oh, Willow! The one with all the midgets?”   She scrunched her nose as only she could.  “Val Kilmer is in this one?!”

He chuckled. “I thought you might like it.”

“Well, you know me, anything with Val is pretty much in.”  She cocked her head, inspecting the cover again before tossing it away. “I didn’t know you were into fantasy.”

He attempted to cock an eyebrow as he gazed at her playfully.  “There are a good many things you don’t know about me, my dear  Ms. Chase.”

She gazed at him, her face seriously mocking.  “And what would those things be, Mr. Giles, sir?”

He smiled a soft grin, and leaning down, gave her a long and thorough kiss before raising his head to let his eyes twinkle at her.

“You’ll just have to wait and see.”  Pulling her close to him, sighing with contentment as she lay her head on his chest.  “You and I are going to be together for a very long time.”

Her eyes were shining as she used a hand to massage his chest, her breath tickling his chin as she gave him a squeeze.

“I know, Bookworm.”

So take a look at me now, well there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me, just the memory of your face
Now take a look at me now, cos there's just an empty space

But to wait for you, is all I can do and that's what I've got to face
Take a good look at me now, cos I'll still be standing here
And you coming back to me is against all odds
It's the chance I've gotta take
Take a look at me now
